Dear Reader … when you are relocated from a state like say … California … where everything goes …
… it’s nothing short of a disaster to learn the new laws. Absolutely stunning.
Fines abound! Up to a half ounce no penalty but a maximum fine exists … are you kidding me? Aren’t they the same? No incarceration though. Whew!
My brain is spinning at the long list of potential criminalities I could commit without knowing it. I must say it’s quite a shock. One can so easily be accustomed to having so freely a ride in the former abode. What was it called back in the day? Culture shock?
Look at this taken from normL.org …
The state has decriminalized marijuana to some degree. Typically, decriminalization means no prison time or criminal record for first-time possession of a small amount for personal consumption. The conduct is treated like a minor traffic violation.
Does this mean that a second time possession is criminal?
If it’s decriminalized why is there a fine?
Democratic Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham signed legislation into law decriminalizing the possession of personal use amounts of cannabis. The law took effect on July 1, 2019.
Possession of marijuana paraphernalia used for the cultivation, distribution, or inhalation/ingestion of marijuana is punishable by a fine of $50.
You can have it but you can’t either ????
For first offenders cultivation of marijuana is a second degree felony and is punishable by 9 years of imprisonment and a fine of $10,000. Subsequent offenses are considered a first degree felony and are punishable by 18 years of imprisonment and a fine of $15,000.
Cultivating marijuana within a drug-free school zone is a first degree felony and is punishable by 18 years of imprisonment and a fine of $15,000.
Mrs. Conaway gets it with regards to children. However, the good news here is that CBD oils are allowed.

It’s disturbing how easily the medical community can prescribe some of the most destructive compounds called prescription drugs with impunity and carelessness. And, yet the cannabis users can’t even have it in their home. Yes, of course people will sneak and have it. It’s sickening that grown men and women have to slink around just to have medical marijuana to ease their pain. Not everyone has a qualifying condition that enables them to have a card yet the cannabis eases their pain and makes life bearable.
Oh! Mrs. Conaway’s head is spinning! Look at the fines …
|Up to 1/2 oz||None||None||$ 50|
|More than 1/2 oz and up to 1 oz (first offense)||Misdemeanor||15 days||$ 100|
|More than 1/2 oz and up to 1 oz (second offense)||Misdemeanor||1 year||$ 1,000|
|More than 1 oz and up to 8 oz||Misdemeanor||1 year||$ 1,000|
|8 oz or more||Felony||1.5 years||$ 5,000|
Perhaps she will reconsider the relocation positives to a state like Colorado which is nearby. … hmmmm.
Seriously, the laws with regard to medicinal use must be arranged so that the people who need it can get it without making them a criminal. Keep in mind that Mrs. Conaway believes that recreational use is a waste of a precious commodity. So many seniors do not know how advantageous medical marijuana can be when properly coached in its use. Back in the so-called good old days of the 60’s and 70’s users of cannabis had mainly one goal and that was to get high. Right now, if given the choice to be high and pain free or fighting cancer … get high wins! Might as well since the pain can be unbearable from what I have been told.
It is hard to believe that Mrs. Conaway has not actually smoked any cannabis at all and only uses CBD oil from Zion Medicinals. Should anything ever take a turn for the worse, Mrs. Conaway would most definitely use some Rick Simpson Oil AND move to a friendly state!
Some lessons are hard to accustom oneself with. Upon becoming a certified Cannabis Coach in a state that its use, growth, possession and promotion are pretty much illegal is quite the shock.
Retirement was not based on the right factors or she definitely would have ended up in Colorado and may still! A great thing about aging into the golden years is the fact that you can do what ever you want as long as you can finance it!
Keep that in mind and as always, obey the laws. They will change soon and then all will be well in the medical needs field and medical cannabis can take its rightful place in the medical field.
